Who we are

In early 2000s, Bill Lange and Bill Peebles were on a trip to San Lucas Tolimán, Guatemala and stumbled across a young man who had taken the 12th step of Alcoholics Anonymous seriously and was trying to help men to get sober in his small apartment. He called his effort Casa Tat Loy (CTL).

Nearly 50 men were living in his small space, using a 12-Step residential model to pursue sobriety. Tadeo, the man who had founded CTL, was doing all he could, but his resources were running out. In an almost miraculous encounter, the Bills recognized the profound work that was being done and how they could partner with Tadeo. They went to the ATM and took out as much as they could and gave it to him. Thus a partnership was born.

Many years later, Casa Tat Loy, Inc, is a 501c3 non-profit, has acquired a much larger facility, and continues to support the work in Guatemala to save families one person at a time. We help administratively and most practically, provide the resources to keep the doors open and those seeking release from the chains of addiction with viable hope for their future. Many of the clients of CTL come from indigenous communities with few financial resources and we are able to provide scholarships for counseling, treatment, housing, and reintegration with their families. Though Bill Lange passed in 2023, we remain dedicated to the mission that inspired him.
